Clean Plate ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.
The short version: your recipes stay on your device. We don't sell your data. We collect the minimum information needed to make the app work.
Data We Collect
Data stored on your device
Recipes — All recipes you save are stored locally on your device using SQLite. We do not have access to your saved recipes.
Preferences — Settings like dark mode preference are stored locally.
Data processed by our servers
Recipe URLs — When you import a recipe by URL, the URL is sent to our server to extract recipe content. We do not log or store these URLs after processing.
Ingredient conversion requests — When you convert units or scale servings, ingredient text is sent to our server for AI processing. This data is not stored after the response is returned.
Data collected by third parties
RevenueCat — We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat may collect anonymized purchase data and device identifiers. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
Expo / React Native — The app framework may collect basic crash and performance data. No personal information is included.
Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect your name, email address, or account information (no account is required)
We do not track your location
We do not use advertising SDKs or sell data to advertisers
We do not use analytics or tracking pixels
We do not access your contacts, photos, or other device data
AI Processing
Clean Plate uses Anthropic's Claude API to power recipe scraping, ingredient conversion, and servings scaling. When these features are used:
Recipe URLs and ingredient text are sent to Anthropic's API for processing
Anthropic does not use API inputs to train their models (per their API privacy policy)
Data is processed in real time and not stored by our servers after the response
In-App Purchases
Subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Payment information is handled entirely by Apple/Google — we never see or store your payment details. RevenueCat manages subscription status using anonymous app user IDs.
Data Security
We implement reasonable security measures including:
CORS restrictions on our server endpoints
Rate limiting to prevent abuse
URL validation to prevent server-side request forgery
No persistent storage of user data on our servers
Children's Privacy
Clean Plate does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app does not require an account and stores all data locally on the device.
Your Rights
Since your recipe data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times. You can:
Delete any recipe from the app
Delete all data by uninstalling the app
Cancel your subscription at any time through your device's app store settings
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
